TDI SDI ERDI Representatives for Greece and Cyprus

Μια από τις σημαντικότερες εξελίξεις στην τεχνική κατάδυση στην χώρα μας ήταν η ανάληψη της αντιπροσώπευσης του μεγαλύτερου οργανισμού Τεχνικής κατάδυσης παγκοσμίως από τους Hellas Underwater Explorers / Γιώργος Πέτρου το 2000. 

The leading technical diving organization is TDI, which is a pioneer in offering quality technical diving training programs.

T.D.I είναι αρχικά και σημαίνουν Technical Diving International. 

The recreational diving division is SDI, which stands for Scuba Diving International.

A newer division is ERDI, whose initials stand for Emergency Response Diving International.

The delegation was taken over under the Chairmanship of Mr. Bret Gilliam, Director of Education Mr. Joe Odom, and Head of TDI Europe Mr. Dave Crockford.

George Petrou, as an Instructor Trainer, offered all the training programs in Greece of the represented organizations from Open Water to Recreational Diving Instructor and from Nitrox Diver to Trimix, Rebreather and Cave Diver at scuba diver to instructor levels.

Χρηματοδότησε την δημιουργία εξαιρετικών  εγχειριδίων ερασιτεχνικής και τεχνικής κατάδυσης μεταφράζοντας τα πάντα στην Ελληνική γλώσσα. Επίσης όλα τα Power Point Του οργανισμού μεταφράστηκαν στην Ελληνική γλώσσα.

And of course, the icing on the cake was the establishment and completely successful activation of the HUE exploration team, which was followed by many good instructors and new exploration teams in our country.

Some years ago, specifically in 1991, one of the best, in my opinion, Technical Diving magazines, Aqua Corps, established the term "Technical Diving" to define the organization of a range of diving activities that for all of us is known as "Specialty Diving".

Extended-scale diving with mixed gases such as Enriched Air Nitrox, Trimix, Heliox

Rebreather diving

The reasons for carrying out such dives were clearly

The activity in these special forms of diving began many years ago, but in the last decade we have had the establishment of Technical Diving Educational organizations with the aim of:

1. the legalization and institutionalization of technical diving

2. the specialization of training per form of diving.

3. Creation of verified and specific specifications, technical diving manuals

5. the activation of such mechanisms so that the taught material is in accordance with the latest developments in diving physiology and other sciences that directly or indirectly affect diving.

6. the development of capabilities and techniques to maximize underwater safety conditions and the fastest and most effective response to underwater incidents.

7. the identification, creation and use of equipment designed with specifications for each specific form of diving.

8. development of the skills of perception, analysis, judgment and making the right decision per situation.

In a period of darkness and prohibitions, Hellas Underwater Explorers /George Petrou developed technical diving in our homeland, keeping up with global developments, actively participating in them by certifying scuba divers, instructors, carrying out exploratory missions and participating in conferences both domestically and abroad. They also participated as exhibitors in diving equipment and tourism exhibitions in countries such as Greece, England, America, etc.

We changed the quality of education both on a theoretical and practical level and created a new ethos in diving.
